His Royal Majesty (HRM)
NTUI-ATUE (DR.) EMMANUEL ORU OJONG Paramount Ruler of Etung LGA
Cross River State.
Background
His Royal Majesty (HRM) Ntui-Atue (Dr.) Emmanuel Oru Ojong was born on the 13th day of July, 1937 in Abia Village in Etung LGA to the family of late Nta Ojong Njar Oru and Ma Ori Agbor.
After his primary Education in St. Francis school, Abia and St. Martins primary school, Ikom, young Emmanuel taught briefly in his Alma-matter before proceeding to The Teachers’ Preparatory Center, Obudu from 1955-1958.
Ntufam did not consider teaching a career he could have settled down to, since he had an expansive vision of life. In order to pursue this vision, he made himself highly mobile.
He left teaching and joined the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service as a clerk in 1959. Later in 1961, he joined the Eastern Nigeria Development Cooperation (ENDC) where he rose to the rank of Field Overseer. It was this brief stint with ENDC that prepared him for his later success in life as a farmer.
When he left the Agricultural cooperation in 1963, It was his resolve to establish his own plantation, generate employment and become an entrepreneur.
Ntufam Oru is a philanthropist, a lover of people and Education. He holds a populist approach to life. Everything he does is measured against the end game of securing a better future for his people. In pursuance of his philosophy, he invested heavily in the Education of men and women, some of whom were not even his relations.
Ntufam Oru started large scale farming in 1963 and ventured into Cocoa, Palms and other tree crops. It is a testimony to his hard work and visionary foresight that His Royal Majesty owns one of the biggest farms in the greater old Ikom LGA of Ikom, Boki and Etung. At home, he was popularly known as “Professor of Cocoa” on account of his Enterprise.
Not a man to rest on his oars or to be contented with little accomplishment, His Majesty combined trading with farming. He traded in Cocoa and men fabrics and was licensed as a buying agent. His trading activities took him to the Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.
It is to his credit, that today, the beneficiaries of his open handedness are medical and legal practitioners, school administrators and bureaucrats in government, industries etc.
Ogim-Onor secondary School, Abia, the only Post primary institution in the clan, was pioneered and facilitated by HRM when he was chairman of the village council.
Only recently, he established a Nursery, Primary and Secondary school “Emmanuel the King’s College” in Mankono village, to cater for the Educational needs of the residents of Mankono and its environs.
As the saying goes “Gold fish have no hiding place” – little did the now Ntufam Oru know that the personal attributes of the then hardworking Mr. Emmanuel Oru Ojong, his innumerable contributions to his people were to cut him out for higher
responsibilities of becoming who he is today – The Paramount Ruler of Etung, the custodian of Ejagham customs and tradition today.
He started his journey of ascension to the throne as the Village Head in 1993, progressed to becoming a Clan Head in 1998 and finally become the Paramount Ruler of Etung in the year 2000.

Ntufam Oru’s love for people and education underpin his leadership philosophy as a Paramount Ruler. His mantra is: “Make a decision today and perfect a reality tomorrow; grooming the young minds toward understanding the importance of Educational learning.”
