Prof. Benedict Iserom Ita

Brief Background & Career

Prof. Benedict Iserom Ita is a native of Orem village, Ejagham Akamkpa Cluster in Akamkpa LGA of Cross River State, Nigeria. He was born on the 10th April, 1967. He attended Presbyterian Primary School Akim Qua Town from 1973 to 1979.

He did his Secondary education at Immaculate Conception Seminary Mfamosing from 1979 to 1984.

He did his BSc degree in Chemistry at the University of Calabar from 1985 to 1989 when he graduated. He was posted to former Gongola State for the NYSC assignment in 1989 and completed his NYSC in September 1990 at Federal University of Technology in Yola.

Prof. Benedict Iserom Ita is a family man and devout Christian. He is married to Dr. Caroline Iserom Ita nee Caroline Etangeyong. They are blessed with five children: Florence Njine Iserom, Charles Ita Iserom, God’sgift Jenechingi Iserom, Magdalene Offah Iserom, Catherine Ogyebambingi Iserom, and Jacob Ekupnse Iserom.

In October 1990 he was employed as a Graduate Assistant by the University of Calabar where he is still lecturing till now. In 2010 he became the first Professor of Chemistry specializing in Physical, Theoretical and Mathematical Chemistry. In Akamkpa LGA he is also the first Professor of Chemistry.

Prof. Benedict Iserom Ita has written at least 170 journal articles spanning the areas of Chemistry, physics and Mathematics. He has also written four Textbooks three of which are in www.amazon.com.

In 2018 he presented his Inaugural lecture on “Nanoparticles: A vanguard of Chemistry ingenuity for national development.”

Outlook On Writing More Books

Prof. Benedict Iserom Ita intends to write more books particularly a book on Chemical Kinetics and another one on Impulsive Differential Equations in Chemistry. He is also publishing more journal articles and supervising more MSc and PhD students.

Divine Intervention: My Personal Experience.  

This book discusses so many interventions in the author’s life and the great miracle where (according to the author) God Spoke to him in the presence of ‘My Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary’ on 22nd August 2016.

 The IUPAC Nomenclature of Organic and Inorganic Compounds  

This textbook was in 1999. It introduces a very simple but unique way of naming organic and inorganic compounds. The book is very good for beginners of naming of compounds using IUPAC nomenclature in West Africa.

 Introduction to Physical Chemistry

The book was written in 2003. It contains very useful but easily understood topics for undergraduate students. It treats Gas Laws, Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics and Chemical as well as Statistical Thermodynamics. It is believed that the book will help even the beginners of physical chemistry in understanding the topics.

Solved Problems in Quantum Chemistry                     

This textbook was published in 2005 and solves some difficult problems in quantum chemistry easily.

The Inaugural lecture

The Inaugural lecture on Wednesday 21st February 2018. It summarizes the importance of nanoparticles and their applications in science and technology.
